Hello,

I am just starting to sort out what I am going to do on my trip down under, I know Australia is a huge place but can anyone tell me what is the best way to get around. I presume there will be cheap coaches to travel up the East coast on, I don't mind long journeys, but are these any good?

Coaches are a fairly reliable form of transport. Plane flights are also fairly cheap here if you can get them in the middle of a sale. I wouldn't recommend catching taxis to get from A to B as they're pretty expensive.

My suggestion is always to look at the option to fly into Perth, travel overland and SEE as you go and then fly out from Sydney (or Cairns?)!! Think figure 8 as you travel over Australia entirely and you will see both coasts and the red centre without too much backtracking, if any. You can find work as you go if you plan to have the year or two here.
I'm biased but i think the best way to travel around is on Jump On, Jump Off Hostel to Hostel bus tours - specially in Western Australia. They are fully guided so you know what you are seeing and you can also jump off the bus and spend time in a town before continuing on the tour again. Great option for WA as this state is BIG but definitely worth it!! Fantastic way to meet other travellers also if you plan to travel on your own.
Happy planning and travelling - you'll love it here!!!
