Hi, I have three weeks to go wherever I want in Dec/Jan. I just thought I'd solicit some ideas until I can get to the bookstore.
Beaches, mountains, jungle, cheap food and drink, other travellers, and ruins are all things i like. Some of my fave places are in my profile.
Off the top of my head, I thought I'd start in Buenas Aires, hang in Argentina a bit, then Chile and Bolivia. Any ideas or tips?
Just one: if three weeks is all you have, limit yourself to one of those countries. Unless you go flying everywhere (something which responsible travellers should never do), you'll end up travelling all of those three weeks if you want to cross half the continent.
Three weeks are a feasible timeframe to go see the south of Argentina and PN Torres del Paine in Chile. You picked a good time, as the whale season is about to start.
If you want beaches, jungles, and cheap food and drink go to Ecuador. I was in Quito Ecuador for four weeks. I volunteered during the week and traveled around the country on the weekends.Atacames is a great beach town with lots of locals and good nightlife. Banos is good for outdoor activities like biking, hoarseback riding and rafting. I went to both Mindo (cloud forest)and to the cuyabeno reserve in the Amazon, and had a great time. I also went up to otavalo to visit the indian market. Ecuador is good for a short period of time because it is relatively small and very cheap and easy to get around.
For beaches head to Puerto Lopez. The beaches north of Puerto Lopez are amazing, pristine and lonely. I recommend http://www.hosteria-islamar.com.ec.....Puerto Lopez is also famous for it's whales from June to September.

May be it's better if you choose one of the following: since your starting point is Buenos Aires, you can either travel north to Iguazú Falls and then Bolivia; or you can go south and cover argentine and chilean Patagonia. If yoy are interested in more info and prices, send me a message and I can find that out for you.
