I will be arriving at Phnom Phen coming from Bangkok in mid November.
Can you tell me what is the best way to get to Siam Reap. Ì`ve been told that there is only a ferry a day to SR and it leaves PP at 7.00 am. Since I`m landing at 9.00 am what are my best and fast options, without taking a plane there.
Thanks for your help
I travelled by bus from Phnom phen to SR, they have varied prices which start from $5 and you even get a snack and a drink. the journey takes a full day more or less and you see some amazing sights along the way. One warning of getting the bus to SR, you will get mobbed as you get off by every moto driver in SR to get your business. I found it particulary stressful after a long bus journey!
You can however take a boat to SR, but this is more expensive, very crowded and slightly longer i think ($25)
The coach from PP to Siem Reap will take around 5-6 hours, the roads are decent enough, it's not a bad trip. For around $5 it's a bargain.
Last month I took the Mekong Express bus service from SR to PP. It cost $9 and took slightly over 5 hours. If you have several other friends/travellers with you, consider renting a car/taxi. It's faster and you can leave - and stop - at the time of your choice. The boat service, in my opinion, is overpriced, uncomfortable and often slow. Plus, the views on the lake aren't that great.
Take a motodop from the airport (2$) to capitol guesthouse and then from there capitol bus run to Siem Reap and they have a bus that leaves at 10.30am and arriving in Siem Reap aproximately 3.30pm. The price is about 4.5$ per person.
Bus would be a good way. There are a lot of bus companies, in Phnom Phen. They are competitive, so there should be busses going at a time to suit u. I am going to post the bus company details in this thread.
