Well i am off to Thailand on oct 4 , we were going to have a few days in Bangkok but in light of what is going on that may not be such a good idea , i was thinking Kanchanaburi for a week just to ease us into it , i have traveled before but my girlfriend has not so i don't want anything to hardcore like Pattaya for her first time in Thailand, any quieter beach resorts around the Bangkok area or just stick with Kanchanaburi
all opinions welcome
cheers Jon & Helen

Try Hua Hin or Cha Am. Quiet little resorts that are a good way to 'ease' into Thailand.

No problems in Bangkok. Really, it's probably safer than ever these days. And if you get here soon you can get your photo taken with some soldiers and tanks!

Go to Bangkok guys! When else you going to see a kudeta in progress? It's once in a lifetime deal... I just got info from a friend in Thailand that you can even take pictures with the tanks and soldiers... And for Pattaya, just do it! It's not hardcore for a first timer! It'll be great! Me and wife visit Thailand all the time... This February we'll be back to see Pattaya and Bangkok! Enjoy your time in Thailand guys...

Hey,
I would say definitely make your way to Bangkok - its an awesome city and there is so much to see - it can get a bit too much though and if you want something nearby I would say Kanchanaburi- its very beautiful- hire a scooter and ride around to some of the cave temples!! See the waterfall, bridge over the river kwai, tiger temple and just relax on the river. Ko Chang is on the other side of Bangkok and not too far away. Its a very beautiful island and if you hire a scooter you can drive around and some amazing scenery.
Enjoy
