Travel Forums Introductions Hey there! From Toronto...

Just checking in to say "Hi" and introduce myself before jumping into the forums!
I've done a lot of travelling in North America and been to Cuba more than 20 times and I went to Jamaica for the first time this past April. My husband is Jamaican and has some similar travel experiences - except I've only dragged him to Cuba twice!
NOW it's time to get over to Italy - the birthplace of my father!
So I'll be spending some time wading through all the great travel info here! Thanks to all for your contributions, this looks like a great site!
Charmaine

Thanks for your welcome messages!
My father was from a small mountain village near Campobasso, Molise.
Interestingly, I have a friend who's currently teaching in Doha, Qatar and has the entire summer off to travel, come home, etc. He'll be meeting up with my husband & I in Italy. My sister might join us as well...here's hoping!
Our intention is to start out in Florence and see Tuscany and the Cinque Terre, then take the train to Venice for a couple of days. Then train to Rome for 4 days and from there train to Campobasso for 7 days. This includes time exploring the region, like Assissi and Termoli (far apart, I'm aware, but still I'd like to see them).
Unfortunately, I've learned that the last earthquake nearly wiped out Castellino del Biferno (my father's birthplace). The population has gone from around 3000 down to around 750 since that last quake that hit Assissi and area. So, I'm sure there won't be anywhere for us to stay in the village. I'll have to commute daily from Campobasso or somewhere close by. If we can see some of the Adriatic side by going to Termoli, then all the better!
I was supposed to make this trip in 2000 with my father, but unfortunately he didn't live long enough to go with me. So now, I'm going to do the whole trip with him in mind.
We'll travel from Campobasso to Sorrento and stay for 7 more days. The idea is to see Naples, Capri, the Amalfi Coast, etc. using Sorrento as a base.
I can't stop here though. We'll then move on directly to Reggio di Calabria - some family friends from there that we'll visit. We'll spend a few days there, then on to Sicily, maybe Palermo or someplace where we can spend 5 days just relaxing on or near a beach before we have to come back to Toronto!
What do you think? Too much for a first trip? I think I'd better give up Spanish and start learning some Italian - QUICK!
I think, all tolled, we'll be there for a little over a month and zig-zag our way through the entire country from North to South.
Djiboutici, I hope you're enjoying Canada as much as I think I'm going to LOVE Italy!

That's Great Charmainia...That's very thoughful of you(for your father who couldn't make the trip with you,may he rests in peace).

Get ready to get hit on,it's an Italian thing, they don't care wether you're with someone or not, that doesn't seem to put them off, they make me laugh...(they don't mean any offence by it)...

Sounds like a Great Trip,All The Best...
