I am currently traveling throughout Europe and North Africa w. my gf and we have decided to make our way to Asia. We would like to possibly hit Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and possibly others. Would anyone recommend or suggest any itinerary that they have done? We are open to all suggestions. We are looking to spend about a month or more in Asia and would be looking to travel this November/December-January.
Also, can anyone recommend any budget airlines flying from Europe to Asia?
Thanks a million!
well, if you only have one month, I would say stick to one or two countries. It would make sense to leave Sri Lanka out this time around since it's kind of out of the way of the others you mention. Your best bet would be to fly into Bangkok and go from there. You can head North to Northern Thailand and Laos, East to Cambodia and Vietnam, or South to the beaches and Malaysia.
Theres lots to see in this area, and it's all very easy to do overland.
You could probably do a month in any single country and not get bored. There is so much to see and do and experience in Asia. As Degolasse suggested, start in Bangkok and go from there. Thailand is centrally located to many fascinating neighboring countries; Laos, Myanmar (Burma), and Cambodia. And Vietnam is a short flight away, or can be down by road via Cambodia.
Keep in mind that Nov-Jan is high season over here and that means many more tourists, slightly higher prices for accommodation. Depending upon where you travel you might find some modes of transportation (airplane flights, trains, etc.) and hotels will be full, so you may want to try and book ahead of time.
Asia...??? Definitely you gotta see Bali!!! Bangkok's a must and after that Bali... Bali is the place to be for value, fun, beach, and party... especially if you're traveling with your GF! Must go, must see Bali...
You can spend a month in any one country especially Sri Lanka or Thailand. Sri Lanka has everything to offer and is absolutely beautiful but it is dirty and people can hassel you alot. If you went to Sri Lanka you probably need to hire a driver so its easier for you to get around.
I would definitely go with Thailand and spend at least 3 weeks there. You could do the S.E Asia loop - Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. You coul ddo it in a month but you wont get alot out of it.
Thailand has alot to offer and it really depends on what you wnat to see. Alot of people go to the South - the beaches are absolutely beautiful but very touristy. If you want to escape the tourist scene Mae Sot, Um Phang and any where else along the border to Myanmar is really beautful and awesome. At Um Phang you can go on 3 day treks which include visiting a hilltribe, seeing th emost beautiful waterfall, elephant riding and trekking - its very cheap and an awesome experience - plus very few people go there so you may be the only ones there.
Just keep in mind that in December it will be very busy so it may be difficult to find a room and prices will rise (depending if you are on a strict buget). Cambodia is awesome especially the temples at Ankor.
Anyway hope this helps. Good Luck
