hey there, just back from Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. As you know the two cities are so different!! Was out of Thailand before the trouble started so cant comment there

I personally felt Singapore had more to offer and felt a bit less intimidated there. Bangkok was fast and dirty in comparison (Singapore was spottless) however more of a culture shock. Everyone in Singapore can speak English, the people are a lot more reserved and being colonial has many Western influences.

Bangkok was cheaper than Singapore for most things but then again both cities were far cheaper than back home in the U.K Met more travellers in Bangkok. Khao San Road!!

Both cities are very easy to navigate around at low price.

Could you not stop over on the way back so can experience the two??

Hope this helps.

Regards Michael

Hey,
I stopped in singapore for a few days...it's a cool city and it really comes alive at night.... the shopping is second to none and some markets like mustapha in little india is open 24 hours... there's other stuff to do like the night safari at the zoo which is highly recommended ans a visit to sentosa island which is a little resort that can be accessed by cable car over the harbour.
it's so clean and really traveller friendly...
have a good time whereevere you end up.

I just want to THANK EVERYONE for the valuble information. I booked Singapore since it is a smaller city and i feel i will be able to " absorb " and learn the city faster than a mega city such as Bangkok.

This is also my first visit to asia and I don't think I would be cultured shocked, but sing being more western but yet eastern should be agood introduction.

Next question? where to stay in singaopre?

what i am looking for

1) free transfer from airport
2) somewhere that i can walk to everywhere or jump on the transit
3) close to bars and entertainment
4) single room less than 70 us dollars a night

thanks again!
george
