Singapore... Nice city, plenty to see... Stay at hotel 81 chain, look it up on, cheap accomodation, nice place, really clean and safe, and they have hotels everywhere in Singapore! You won't make it in a day going roundtrip to Malaysia! You need at least 2 days, the first day, leave in the morning from Malaysia, get the in the afternoon, it's a 5 hours trip by express bus, my suggestion is aeroline coach at, nice bus, no hassle, and the next day leave malaysia around noon, get back in Singapore by afternoon... Eat at McDonald's or Burger King, that's cheap eating if you wanna save! Go shopping in KL rather than Singapore, especially for shoes! Got really cheap shoes at Vincci! Have fun...

I will suggest that you could save some money by staying in one of the many hostels in Singers. Take a look at 'Travellers Rest Stop', 'Fern Loft Hostel' & 'Summer Tavern'. Cheaper than the hotel81 chain. Also try the food courts located in many big shopping malls. The food courts are cheaper than the chain restaurants and offer more variety. You will also see many street restaurants as you walk around. Stop and check their prices. Most are cheaper than Burger King. No opinion on shoe shopping!

i agree with the A travellers rest stop, i have stayed there twice on my travels and i am staying there twice more before going home, the staff are soooooooooooooooooo nice and they really go out of their way to help you... its also in a great location close to both Chinatown and Outram Park MRT stations, also only a 5mins walk from there is a place called the Chit Chat Cafe that does the most amazing noodle soup dishes, infact everything on the menu tastes great, i always eat there when in spore lol

as for malaysia in a day, it would be possible to visit Johor bahru but its not the best place in malaysia, infact it was probably my least fav place, it may also be possible to do Melacca but its a good 6hrs from spore and each time you have to go through immigration so dont forget the passport!

the zoo is worth a visit but i wouldnt bother with the night safari again, not done sentosa island yet... little india is an interesting place to have a wander...

Cheapest place to stay: YMCA (look it up online, you can book online as well) - it's very well located too, and the breakfast (inc in room tarriff) is fantastic.

Things to do: (From MUST-DO to OPTIONAL)
- Sentosa
- Night Safari
- Little India
- Jurong Birdpark
- Orchard Road (close to your hotel!)
- Chinatown
- Haw Par Villa
(EVERYTHING is safe in Singapore, don't worry, it's one of the safest places on the planet)

The YMCA on Orchard Rd has a great location, plenty to do, McDonald's on site and nice rooms, but it is far from the cheapest place to stay.
I think you would be better off at Travellers Rest Stop Hostel, IMO.

What about Thailand. I would consider that, about as cheap and safe as u can get, in Asia.
And u will meet lots of fellow travellers there.

Quoting Mel.

Thailand is an amazing country to visit and many ex-pats choose to live there, esp. Pattaya. It is also one of the easiest countries to meet fellow travellers and get from A to B. However, it is not as cheap or safe as VietNam. Beside the terror bombings in the South, street crime in Pattaya and BKK is not to be ignored. There are way too many snatch and grab thieves operating now. I personally know 3 people that had their purse or necklace torn off them as they were riding on their motorbike. They all had a nasty fall to the pavement besides losing their valuables. This type of crime is now being committed 8-10 times a day in just Pattaya. At least as reported by the Pattaya Mail. Since they are a cheerleader for the city, I doubt they are exaggerating the numbers.

Thailand is beautiful, fun to visit and fairly cheap for western visitors, but it is not as safe as Singapore or VN.
