Hi

Me and my boyfriend (both Scottish) are going to South America for about 5-6 weeks starting in Rio de Janeiro and flying out of Santiago. We want to take in Rio, Sao Paulo, Iguazo Falls, Buenos Aires, Santiago and anything else in between and would like some advice on whats the best way to travel between these areas (esp between BA and Santiago), if its possible to book the travel through english speaking websites and any other tips on travel, hostels etc.

Help is much appreciated!
Many thanks!
Amy

  • You figured out a route that's by all means feasible; Rio - Sao Paulo (overnight) - Iguazu (overnight) - BsAs (overnight)- Mendoza (overnight and a bit) - Santiago (only a few hours).
  • Don't bother about booking in advance; 5-6 weeks is enough to be flexible about your travels, esp. since most of yor travels are relatively short ones, which can be done in an overnight journey
  • If you were to book through an (english-speaking) agency, you'd pay A LOT more than you'd have to
  • Bus services are extremely frequent and efficient in SA; although it's good to buy your tickets a few days in advance if you have a chance, there's definitely no need to book. Same for accommodation

Enjoy your trip,
Niels

niels is right, travelling by bus is very easy here in south america, but remember taht distances are not short from mendoza to buenos aires are like 800km plus the journey to santiago de chile.

I would recommend you to focus and try not to go through capitals, only siteseeing, discover a lit o each countrys theyu are very similar the main cyties but in the interior is where the magic happens.

Places in Argentina you must know:

Patagonia
-San Martin de los Andes
- camino de los 7 lagos

Córdoba
- Turismo Cultural- (1 or 2) days
- is actually the american capital of culture (You have a lot of theatre international concerts, night life, ect)

Mendoza
-Very nice city 1 or two days to look arround.
-Lot of wine (CABAS) Where is made the typical Argentine Malbec.

Rosario
-lot of night life

Website to visit for travelling by bus...
Here you can book buy and print your tickets toi almost any destination in Argentina and for sure for the big cities in brasil and Chile...
They accept visa and master.

Have a nice trip.

if you come to Córdoba contact me

Hey All,

I am also flying into Rio and flying out of Santiago, except i have 6 months!

Im stuck as what rout to take. no one i ask seems to want to help me! its a nightmare!

i want to see the Brazil, Argetina, Chile, Bolivia and Peru.

However because i fly out of santiago i dont want to back track on myself!

I.e Santiago - TDP National park - up to Peru!

I was thinking Rio -Sao paulo - Iguazu - Pantanal - Bolivia - then Peru and down to Santiago, down agin to Torres de pain National park, and into Argentina.

Any advice?

Thanks
