Hi,

My husband and I are starting a rtw trip in November and our first stop is Rio de Janeiro.
I was wondering if anybody could recommend a nice and value for money place there where we could stay a few nights.
We'd rather be in Copacabana or Ipanema but are open to any suggestion.

Thanks in advance :)

Hi!
I personally would recommend Santa Tereza area... a bit more mellow, and really beautiful. If you would specific locations and hostel or hotels names and numbers I can help you out with that. My email is -snip-. Go ahead and email me directly. Take Care and Enjoy Rio, it is a fabulous city!

Hey,,

If your looking at Ipanema. Try the Ipanema Beach HOuse. I had a good time there and they had a good breakfast, as well as a helpful staff. YOu can book all you day activities right at the front.

Hope this helps

Brian

I recommend Ipanema.
Ipanema is better in everything. Better people, beste beach, best hotels, less noisy....

I too would go for ipanema...good bars, food, excellent market on saturday where you can buy really good local art. great juice bars, trust me it's brazil you want to have some of their exotic fruits, i recommend, "maracuja" and "acai". i stayed at hotel ipanema plaza. it's one block away from the the beach where you can walk between "posto 7" and "posto 9" to get their respective different vibes.
have fun!

Definitely Ipanema is much better, and safer. There are many great beach front hotels: Praia Ipanema, Marina Palace, Ipanema Plaza, Everest Rio. There are 2 hotels in the limit of Ipanema and Copacabana that are an excellent choice too: Mar Palace Copacabana and Orla Copacabana.
