I slept at Charles de Gaulle last year because I was too cheap and stubborn to book a hotel for just a few hours. It was OK - just very, very cold (the air conditioning was on in November...brr...). It was realatively quiet, some of the benches made for stretching out, the airport employees didn't bother anyone, and it only got a little noisy around 5 a.m. when people started coming in for a flight. I'm a bad sleeper as it is, and kept waking up to check my luggage, but I'd certainly do it again if I only had a short stopover.

I have slept at many airport and never had a problem. I found it super helpful to hook up with likeminded budget travellers who are maybe waiting for a connection or in the same boat so you can take shifts. I slept at London Gatwick, Rome Da Vinci, Berlin, Dublin, Toronto, Lubeck, Vancouver, Auckland with no worries.

I slept on my large rucksac on the floor in a corner of the main lobby in Manila domestic airport a few weeks ago. It was clean but seating uncomfortable. Guards were pleasant and I was left in peace to grab a couple of hrs of sleep. Pretty safe place and was allowed out to smoke. Apart from sleeping, a good book is essential and i-pod pretty handy to have to drown out noise. Will sleep in them again if I have early morning flight just to save cash on shitty hotels or hostels.

:)

Woah... that website is fantastic! Thanks for that.

And thanks everyone else for all your help. Why spend 90 bucks on a bed when I can sleep on a couch for free ay...

There aren't too many airports with comfortable laying down arrangments...if you can sleep sitting up...you will find something. The longest I have ever spent in an airport was 24 hours at LAX...it sucked. I was accosted twice....railroaded by the airlines, who gave me a ten dollar meal voucher for screwing up my flights. Bad food, loud constant announcements...hard as hell to sleep there. It looks much better since the major remodel, but it was a dirty, and I mean dirty...tampons on the carpet, barf piles in the terminal...absolutely disgusting!
