I am an American and I will be visiting the UK for 10 days in December. Does anyone know if there is any problem with entering the UK even though you have a criminal record? There is only one misdeamenor offense (DUI). Do they have a way of checking your record at customs??
I shouldn't think so - we're not as bad as some countries on these things.
I would contact the British Embassy in Washington to be on the safe side - fill out the on-line query form (if you don't want to give your name you could just put in something like "John Jones" and set up a new email account although this would be morally wrong and I would never suggest that you do such a thing)
Check out the link Contact the British Embassy in Washington DC
At immigration control your passport automatically links into a list of people to be denied access to the UK, this would be people with a criminal record that made them undesirable in the UK.
It makes good sense to check with the nearest Embassy to be certain that your spent drinking, driving misdemeanour will not affect your entry, tell them of the time elaplsed since the offence.
Will you be driving when in the UK? tell them that as well.
If there is any more help you want from here please get back to me.
I would explain your record, to the UK consulate, in the US, and ask them about going to the UK. The UK immigration can be very weird, for non european nationals.
And, are u sure your crime is actually on record. I did something naughty, in Canada, when i lived there. I phoned the police, to ask if i now have a criminal record, for it, because if i did, my visa to work in Canada probably would not be extended. They did not record what i did, as a criminal record.
What naughty thing did you do? Come on Mel - tell the crowd what they want to hear.....
I was trespassing, in an appartment block. My ex boyfriends mother lived there, and we had parked our car there. The security man would not let us in without security passes. When another car drove in, we followed it. We were just about to get in our car, when the security man appeared, with his rothweiler and handcufs. He called the police, and insisted on pressing trespassing charges against us.
