Hi people

I have a question for you. My brother and I are going to be travelling a fair bit next year but unsure about the situation with the US. My brother has a record for stealing which he got about 8 years ago. Will that sort of criminal record affect his chances of getting into the US? Know who I can contact to find out more?

Oz is visa waiver country. You should be able to enter with just your passport. However, I would contact the US Embassy in Oz and flat out ask them out entering the US with a criminal record. You do not want to pay for an expensive air ticket and be denied entry. I think it is worth a few e-mails or phone calls to find out. Good Luck.

In theory your brother will not be able to enter on a VISA weiver as he has a record. Again in theory he should get a VISA before travelling. That said, when I went last year I also shouldnt have got in on the weiver. I had been arrested twice and have 2 cautions (I dont know if this is less severe than your bros record). The police over here told me they would share their info with US immirgration etc and I was cacking it a bit when i got to NYC but all was fine and I got in with no probs.

IF you have time before you go he may as well apply for the VISA. I found out too late so didnt bother applying.

Hope this helps.
