I -- oops -- "i" don't suppose you've thought of trying Google (either to find the information you need or to find another site for travellers)?

Maybe I'll get booted out of the forum for posting this, but give Lonely Planet's "thorn tree" a go.

No offense taken, rorone. But, I do have some questions for you...

1) When do you leave?
2) How long ago did you contact the Travel Helpers?
3) Have you contacted any of the Helpers a second time?
4) Have you posted you questions/requests in the open forums also?
5) Have you done a site search for information?
6) What information are you looking for???

I agree with Kevin. If you found Travellerspoint via a Google search, I'm sure you will be able to find other sites as well. I also agree with Degolasse - Lonely Planet may have the information your are looking for...

If you can give a bit more information, someone may be able to help you more quickly. If you posted a thread some time back and received no responses, there is a chance that some of our members who have just joined recently may be of help. Basically, we need a bit more info to work with, especially if time is of the essence.

Hi Isadora,

Im leaving in 4 weeks and i contacted the travel helpers
on a number of occasions raging from last month to about 2 weeks ago.

I havnt contacted the travel helpers a second time, but im sure it Wouldnt be a bad idea. Il give it a go.

I have posted some questions in the open forums and mailed some ppl who give good advice personally but as of yet i havnt got any response.

The type of informatiom that i need is basically help with what route to take in SA. Beginning in Rio and ending in Santiago.planning to do it mostly by bus.

Would like to encompass Argentina, Peru, Chile, touch on Bolivia. 6 months to do it in.

Sure il keep posting anyway and im sure something will pop up.

I do hope you will find something useful in some of these threads... :)

Now I don't want to start a game of fault-finding, but it seems to me you got pretty good, detailed, to-the-point replies to all of your posts so far... and if I read your own replies, you seemed pretty satisfied with them, too.

Myself and the other travel helpers would be glad to help you out; if you really don't get what you're looking for, you might just be the first one to have tried a certain route/acitvity/etc.

In fairness i got a resonable response from some of my posts in the forums, however it was the 'travel helpers' who my original issue was with Neils!

When i say travel helpers i mean the people that one can independatly mail to ask for advice.

Thanks Isadora for the links, they are very helpfull.

You contacted 3 travel helpers? There's over 100 to choose from for the destinations you described. If you are adamant that your question needs to be private then I would recommend a) reading the helpers' description carefully, and b) checking their profile to see how active they are on the site (browsing through those countries I see there are some very active members to choose from).

But really, the best is to post in the open forum and select the country that is most relevant. This will notify ALL of the travel helpers for that country and in my opinion is one of the fastest ways on the internet to get quick, quality destination advice. If a better system exists, I don't know where you would find it.

The Thorn Tree could be useful as well (it certainly has enough activity), but it is an open forum also and it doesn't seem that's where you want to ask your question.

And as Niels said, there is always the chance that your question is simply too hard to be answered. You might have to play the role of 'discoverer' on this one ;)

Finally, I don't mean to be facetious, but have you tried finding the information you need in a guidebook?
