Thailand (6 months) & India (6 months)....
Sleeping bag - yes or no
Hairdryer - yes or no
Walking boots - yes or no (Never been walking before but never been travelling before so i just dont know if ill need to get some)
Warm jumper or zip up hoody
Sleeping bag - not unless you plan to go camping. In which case you would also need a tent. I personally wouldn't bother. Takes up too much space and if you do find you need one, you can buy them pretty cheaply in Thailand.
Hairdryer - no!!!!!!!!!!! Half the time there are no plug sockets anyway (in budget places).
Walking boots - if you want to do a lot of trekking, they may come in handy. Otherwise, just some comfortable trainers or trekking shoes will do the trick for shorter hikes rather than buying them especially. Bear in mind that walking boots may be uncomfortably hot.
Warm jumper or hoodie useful for northern areas of india and thailand. India can get pretty cold up north.
Hope this helps!
No, No, No and doesn't matetr providing its warm and comfy.
In the case of a sleeping bag and walking boots, you need to be doing extensive amounts of camping and proper trekking to make either worth the effort
I would say...
No...get a sleeping bag liner
No to the hairdryer...you wont give a damn what you look like after a while Its great!
I would say Yes to the boots. They are my best friend. But they are something you can buy on the road if you find that you need them
And yes to the zip up hoody. I have two and I live in them
Would def say no to the sleeping bag, took one round Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia and didn't unpack it once! Def wont be taking it on the next trip.....
Sleeping bag, no unless you're going to spend ages camping in the mountains where it's cold at night. Sleeping bag liner maybe useful if you stay somewhere with suspect bed linen, don't let those bugs bite!
Hairdryer, depends on how perfect you want your hair to be, personally I didn't take one & I have long hair. When it's hot, your hair dries in no time, ok it may not be styled, but when you're traveling you start to care less about your appearance.
Walking boots, maybe if you're going to go on long treks through the jungle, otherwise a pair of old trainers will do.
Warm jumper or hoody, yes! Even if it's just one, air conditioning in Asia has a tendancy to be fierce, you feel like you're in a freezer sometimes. Nothing worse then being stuck on a train with high air con & sitting there in a t-shirt.
Generally the less the better, remember you have to carry your back pack!
No to hairdryer and the sleeping bag... personally i think camping in INdia or Thailand is a bit impractical. Take the jumper and boots, a gd pair of boots do wonders for yr feet. For me they are like the most important item, other than a comfortable pack and the cash...
Hairdryer - that doesn't deserve a response.
Sleeping bag - just take a silk liner.
Hiking boots - only if you are doing full on hiking. Otherwise take a lighter pair of sports shoes that you know are comfortable for doing lots of walking.
Warm jumper - get yourself a good light fleece. It will keep you warm from a sea breeze in hot climates and can be used as a layer in cold climates.
