Just wondering if anyone has actually bought a london pass for their time in London. I am in london for a week and was considering getting the six day london pass with the transport card which is ₤110 or roughly 270 AUD - is it worth it - i'm planning on doing a lot of sightseeing including many of the places covered by the card but was wondering if it is just as cheap to buy entry into these places and to buy daily train/bus tickets? Any advice would be great.
I calculated things thru a bit for the London card in another thread here in TP and came to the conclusion that as long as you have a fairly central place to stay, the London card was only really worth it if you did at least two major sights per day.
The big downside for me was that a lot of the sites you get free entry with the london card require at least a day to see them properly. You also pay unessessary money on the days you do not pay 10 pounds entry to a site listed, but go strolling in a park or (window) shopping instead.
Best try to figure out in what zone your ho(s)tel is going to be. Most sights are within transport zone 1 just like the majority of the cheap central hostels. Bed&Breakfasts are often in zone 2. Go to www.tfl.gov.uk and try to figure out how much 6 days of tube transport are going to cost you. Allow for the occasional extra bus ticket or zone extension. Then you should be able to compare the prices.
I personally think all these travel passes are a big fix! A daily travelcard in London for Zones 1-4 is about £6, and is even less if you buy a weekly travelcard.
What sitesare you going to see? Have you found out the daily entrance fee for them? I'd work out how much the entrance is, plus the daily tube travel, and then see if the pass is cheaper. But beware there are tons of these scams for London, your best bet is to come here and just buy everything on the day.
Give me a pm if you need any more info I am from London
Yep, I agree. A lot of these passes are a waste of money. Day travelcars for zones 1&2 are only £4.50 and if you check out the websites of the attractions you wish to go to you can find out prices and see if there are any special offers too.
