thinking about driving from cairns to brisbane over a 6 day period im sure there is lots to do and see, taking in a few dives on the reef as well.

Anyone done this trip or have any ideas let me know please

Have a look at the pioneer valley/Eungella about an hour west of Mackay. Beautiful place.

Cairns to Brisbane in 6 days? You won't be stopping much I'm afraid. I did this journey in 2001 with my then girlfriend, though we did it over a period of four weeks. However you may well find the time to do some of what we did. I wrote it all up in my travel diaries so there may be some info there which might be of use to you (url below). Note though, that we went north first (to The Daintree) so you might want to ignore that bit.

You should probably take note of Cairns and then Townsville to Brisbane. Between Cairns and Townsville we went inland, something you won't have time to do, so skip that bit.

Thanks guys for your comments, we are now having second thoughts about the drive, might just stay in cairns for 5/6 days any then fly to brisbane.
