i'm interested in working abroad temporarily to get the chance to travel at the same time. ideally, working in the hotel or restaurant industry would be preferred. has anybody ever worked in either ireland or austria (i would be coming from the states) for a season? any advice or thoughts? i only speak english + greek fluently and conversational spanish so i don't know if that will hinder my chances of working in, say, germany. are there any programs that offer help with this sort of thing? i am not a student anymore....

Can you harvest asparagus? (oops, wrong time of year)
I would think that Germany/Austria would be difficult (though there are Greek restaurants here), but maybe someone here can/will prove me wrong.
Certainly your chances are better if you are already involved (via training, school or experience) in the hotel or restaurant industry -- you might look into internships, etc., but without speaking any German, the chances might not be good.
Err - you are facing the "slight" problem that you most likely won't be able to get a work permit.

Check www.monster.ie, www.edenrecruitment.ie and www.irishjobs.com (or for Northern Ireland: www.nijobs.com), lot of work here in Ireland. But check with your embassy if you can get the permit.
