Has anyone travelled between all three countries overland? Just wondering what the visa on arrival situation is if you have no proof of onward travel. And I can't use Thailand as a base now due to the changes - grrr.
I do know that I would need visa for Vietnam - can you let these in Loas or Cambodia?
I've planned my trip from Hong Kong - Vietnam - Cambodia - Singapore. I'm not certain about Laos but found a website that may help - www.seat61.com
This site may also help - http://www.railserve.com/jump/jump.cgi?ID=15329
I remember reading certain border crossings you can get visas into the other country.
hope it helps.
Yes, I have.
Viietnam you CAN NOT get at any border. However, it is easily available either in the consulates/embassies in the other 2 countries, or for a slight commision through virtually every travel agent or hotel that you come across in Lao / Cambodia.
Cambodia you can get at some borders (not the one from Lao though), although in many cases, if you travel with a bus etc, they will stop before the border and make you get the visa from them at a "lunch stop" instead of actually at the border, and you pay a large mark up. Again, it's easily obtainanble in Lao/Thailand/Cambodia through all guest houses/travel agents etc.
Lao will give you 14days at the border, whilst longer 28day visas's cen be got beforehand at consulates/embassies/agaain through every travel agent/hotel in the area.
Have personally never had to show proof of onward travel, and entered Thailand and Lao both twice this year by land, Vietnam once and Cambodia once.
Cool, thanks. It appears much more simple than my guidebooks make out! Phew!
