Hi,Kaheng, I'm the traveller helper lived in Beijing, got your questions from the website administ. Here is the information maybe helpful:

1. Climate: Beijing enters into the typical winter on Dec. the daily temperature would be between centigrade -10 and 2, So winter coat is neccesary and a feather one is better.

2. the Fight from Beijing to Xi'an: You can easily find the flight info on the website:http://english.ctrip.com. The Ctrip also provide the service to book hotel and flight with discount price.

Actually, many distributers provide more discount than the Ctrip but need you to have some Chinese lauguage practice. Referring to http://www.yoee.com/

Hi kaheng14
The fare 1050RMB is a one way and excluding airport tax/insurance, about snow,I do not know exactly, hehe, perhaps it will.
And about Chengde city, the scenery is also beautiful,
for example
Mountain Resort,Putuo Zongcheng Temple,Puning Temple and so on.

There are also serval night trains between Beijing and Xi'an, which might be an option. They are relatively cheap and comfortable and take (from memory) about 13hours, and can be a good way to save a nights accom.

It can snow in January, but doesn't always, although it will be cold. I was there last december (left the 28th) and whilst it had been chilly, it had also been gloriously sunny and clear on most days (so rarely any smog, which is a great thing) and was very pleasant to wander around, providing you have gloves and a hat and a good coat.

Shopping in the silk markets and street stalls and markets etc is easy, and you can get warm clothing/thick coats etc easily and cheaply if you don't want to carry one with you.
