Yep I'm a Kiwi Gal- new to the site but already recieved lots of helpful tips and advice.
I'm hoping to travel early 2005 to Japan then on to Canada and hopefully Alaska for a browse. I'd love to go to Cuba but at this rate I have to be a miilionare to satisfy my travel bug!
Any info on these places would be great and I'll gladly answer questions about travel to NZ!!
Japan is great. We stayed in Tokyo and Hiroshima. Ryokans are cheaper than hotels and give a more authentic experience. Try www.sawanoya.com
Our RTW flight ticket meant we flew to Hiroshima effectively for nothing. Good job as the bullet trains are expensive.
Hiroshima Peace Museum is excellent. After 5 hours, even our kids weren't bored.
Just such a different culture.
Alaska is well worth visiting if you're coming from so far. When I traveled to Alaska from New York we drove through a significant part of Canada, and it just doesn't measure up to Alaska. Denali is amazing, while some of the coastal areas (Kenai Fjords etc.) were also unbelievable. I haven't been there in quite a long time, but most of my extended family lives there if you are looking for any information on Alaska email me.
Also let me know when you'll be going through (when you find out). I've been considering moving there next summer for a few months.
