You know, when your name has a picture next to it, could be a photo or a pic off the net...

I'm on a couple of forums that do it, thought it was a nice idea!

If I remember correctly, this was brought up before. The problem is that Avatars take up a lot of space and make the site go slower.
And knowing some of the people here I don't want to know what Avatar they'd put out there... Think of the children...

We're still waiting for "names"... (I personally find avatars distracting -- but don't go by my taste preferences here.)

Hey! I resemble that remark! ;)

p.s. for Kevin..what do you mean we are still waiting for names?
I have changed mine enough times....but I think I will stick with Cupcake from here on out. :)

Kevin has requested a "signature" feature when posting, not just the username on the side.

Look here for the discussion:
"ignore this member's posts" feature?

It wouldn't matter if you changed your username or not - we'd still just call you CC. Old habits are hard to break!! ;)

I just thought I'd chip in and say that one of the main reasons for not setting up avatars (besides their often cluttery feel), is that travellers on a slower internet connection and paying by the minute, generally would not appreciate anything slowing down their browsing.

I'll cut you all a deal though.... we'll consider avatars the day we consider adding big banner advertising on the site; how does that sound?

That sounds a fair deal to me

  • runs off in a panic that Pete and Sam are about to bring in big banner advertising*

Isa heads off to start the Anti-Avatar Rebellion (against avatars) because she's still on dial-up and absolutely hates big banner advertising - especially the big flashing types.

I agree with Phil - I DON"T want to see what some people will choose as their avatar. A majority of the one's I have seen are really, really scary and they are the real person's picture...
