I've seen Mulholland Drive and I have to admit, I can't help you there. From what I've heard it's supposed to be like a dream in the first half and then reality in the second. But that's just some critic's opinion. As usual, David Lynch doesn't give us any clues or hints, and that's good. It's left to the viewer to make up their mind. I'd love to go and see his latest film when it comes out, but it seems to be on limited release. It sounds like it's typical David Lynch, he even started filming without having a script, just the basic outline. He wrote each scene just before shooting it.

He's a genius! Might have to get Mulholland Dr. out again...

Now you've done it... It's on the movie list now... Just remembered something else, the key is supposedly the little blue square box.
The thing to remember also is that it was conceived as a TV series before he decided to make it into a feature film. That's why you have storylines that don't go anywhere (the guys in the Diner for example.)
I will get back with what I think after I watched it again. I am intrigued now... Maybe it's not meant to make sense, like a Zen Riddle. Just something to occupy your mind and focus your thoughts...

{Phil goes off trying to clap with one hand and meditate on Mulholland Dr. until he gets called into the Boss' office}

Just found this on IMDB:

David Lynch's 10 Clues to Unlocking This Thriller:
Pay particular attention in the beginning of the film: at least two clues are revealed before the credits.
Notice appearances of the red lampshade.
Can you hear the title of the film that Adam Kesher is auditioning actresses for? Is it mentioned again?
An accident is a terrible event... notice the location of the accident.
Who gives a key, and why?
Notice the robe, the ashtray, the coffee cup.
What is felt, realized and gathered at the club Silencio?
Did talent alone help Camilla?
Notice the occurrences surrounding the man behind Winkies.
Where is Aunt Ruth?

It's in the Trivia section. But if you check out the message board, there's a couple of discussion going on there.

One suggestion there is the following link:

Just a quick peek and it looks like it's going to blow your head off. But you've asked for it.

I go back to my Zen Koan theory. Imagine making a movie that does not make sense at all but everybody thinks it has to and come up with their own theories what it's all about.
