Hi there,
me and my boyfriend are going to perth in December and have booked a weekend at the southbound festival at Margaret River (6th Jan 07). Anyone been before? Anyone going this year? Any tips or advice would be great!!
Can anyone recommend any other festivals in oz?
cheers!

I was going to go because Modest Mouse, one of my favourite bands, were playing. But the rest of the lineup is terrible and I don't think it's worth $100 plus driving down there.

Hi Cagsy,

The Margaret River area is beautiful - you will enjoy it I think. However please take note that it is the summer holidays at that time and there will be a "gazillion" holiday makers down there as well. I sincerely hope there is accomodation in this booking you have made.

It would be good if you could spend some extra time down there as well as there is a lot to see - really depends on what you like doing.

If you are interested there is/are:

caves, magnificent national parks and beaches with swimming, snorkelling and board riding, Augusta Lighthouse and area, many many vineyards and magnificent restaurants associated with many of them, forest walks and drives, art and craft galleries, chocolate, icecream, cheese, nuts, olives etc etc factories, ...... and on it goes.

Have a look at these sites - they will give you an indication of what is available around there.

Hope you can spend some extra time down in the southern area of West Aust as it is truly beautiful. Try to get to the Pemberton area (including Manjimup and Brigdetown), further east and south are areas like Denmark, Albany, the Porongorups and The Stirling Ranges oh and many many places in between and around.

Have a great time

with regards

Kathryn

Thanks Kathryn,
Margaret river sounds great! there certainly seems alot to do. We hadn't really planned how long we were staying in the area for, but the southbound festival is only for the weekend, we're going with my brother who has been in australia for eighteen months.
My boyfriend and i are arriving in Australia on the 4th Dec and spending christmas in Perth with my parents. After that we are flying to Sydney and plan to travel up the east coast. Thats about all we've planned so far, we'll just see what happens and how long our money lasts.
Can't wait though!! Thanks again for the advice
