Hey,.steven. I just visited Yangshuo Guilin with my boyfriend last month.and would like to share my experence with you!Don’t worry about the language barrier, most people in yangshuo can speak excellent English. It’s amazing place! The region around Yangshuo is probably the most well-known scenic attraction in China as the Li River winds its way around thousands of limestone karst mountains. Each is impressively named, in true Chinese tradition! We have free time to venture out onto the waters to observe one of the local traditions, cormorant fishing, or to take a bike ride through the surrounding countryside with a local guide, stopping at markets and picturesque villages along the way. It is also a wonderful area for taking off and exploring by yourself, as every turn in the road brings you to another picture-postcard location and illustrates why Yangshuo is a firm favourite of Intrepid travellers. During my stay in Yangshuo,I spent 3 days in Yangshuo New West Street Hotel which I booked througth -snip- The staffs there were very helpful and gave plenty of travel advices to us which made us feel convenient.
Have a nice trip !

well, whether china/viietnam the choice is urs,but u have to consider the language barriers as u urself indicated.i agree with u that travelling at this point in ur life is a very good thing to do.u will get rid of ur broken heart stuff or at least reduce it as much as possible. What i am not clear with is do u wnat to take a work during ur stay or just tour the country?well considering finance Africa is a good place to be and has good cultural heritage which is worthwhile learning.

Hey Steven

It sounds like you have the answers already and some fantastic advice! £6,000 should be more than enough in China if you are not sticking to the big cities. As recommended try and learn a few words (hello, thank you and good bye are a great starting point but also 'sorry' and 'I only speak english' or 'do you speak english' will go a long way!);) and take a phone card or mobile with you. When there is a big culture change you can hit metaphorical walls if you are tired or frustrated and being able to call your folks or a good mate will spark you up again!

Whatever your reasons if you are inspired to travel then its probably the time to do it rather than waiting. You will probably find 6 months down the line that your reasons are no longer important but your actually having done it is what really matters.

Don't forget to use the TP advisers for your chosen areas for all those little things you want to know but didn't know to ask about and let us know how it goes!

Happy travels
