Anybody been in Bangkok during Songkran, April 13-16? I was there
many years ago and am going back in '07. Don't remember much
about what to do, where to go. Any recent years' experiences?
I'm going with my wife and 13-year-old Granddaughter.
Thanks, Tom :)

Wear old clothes that are wash and wear! I went through several in Pattaya.
You grandchild might have some fun. Buy a couple cheap squirt guns and defend your self.

If your wife is a little uptight about getting a snoot full of water and powder plastered on her face she may not care for this holiday!

The exact date of the celebrations are a little flexible. Some cities may have the same celebration on different days. Perhaps it is so that you can experience more than one city's approach to this holiday.

Lots of motor vehicle accidents during this holiday. Many tourists are p.offed because they think they are immune just because they choose not to participate and actually wear expensive clothing. Snooty tourists with expensive clothing is just another "big fat target!"

Link to a past holiday.

There is some more serious events that occur during this holiday too, check out Google for that!

Go at your own peril!

Tom,
I have some photos of Songkram in my gallery. There are from Pattaya, but BKK would be similiar. You can participate or hide. Like 'karazyal' said wear bathing suit, t-shirt, beach shoes, buy a squirt gun if you want to get out there and join in. Leave your camera in the room. Your granddaughter will love the water battles, your wife may not.

Or hide. Hard to do in Pattaya where they drag it out for 7 days, but easier to do in a smaller Thai city where they celebrate for 2-3 days. Pick a hotel that has a pool & restaurant and just stay in for the days of Songkran.
