Hey

Does any one know if Peakview Lodge in Whistler is legitimate? they have a website but we can not find them on the yellow pages, business directory or on the Whistler accomodation site.

They are asking for a deposit then full payment 45 days proir to arrival. Just a bit of money so before we pay we want to make sure that this is not a con, and that we will not be suckered in.

I appreciate any one that knows of it or has any ideas of how I can find out if it is a real business.

Thanks guys.

I've never heard of it, but I went to look it up in Travel Advisor for you and got nothing. Only 24 hits in Google, too. Maybe it's so new there isn't much written about it yet...? I can see why you're skeptical, though.

Hope someone can shed more light on it for you.

The domain for their website was first registered in December 2003, and there's been a website about the lodge since at least mid 2004 (which is the first time the wayback machine saw it). whois registration has the same contact details as are on the contact page of the website, and I can't find anything when searching for the name of the lodge or the name of the owner in combination with "scam".
That doesn't mean anything definite, but at least it's hopeful.

Dont bite the bullet! Try the Better Business Bureau of Canada. If they are not listed, dont fret, doesnt mean they are not legit. Try contacting whistler tourism or buiness. There is definately more ways to find out. Search the white pages for someone to contact. it does seem odd that you cannot contact them, where did you book from?

We found his web site by mistake, www.peakviewlodge.com. However when I called he did not answer Peakview lodge just 'hello' and he is asking for money, deposit only (which is fine), and also wanted full payment 45 days in advance (which made me a bit hesitant as other lodging in Whistler do not seem to follw this protocol), However we did negotiate to pay on arrival and deposit by the 30th of this month. Now he would like us to pay the bank fees at both ends!??

I have looked on the Whitepages, yellowpages, and the business bureau also contact the local newspaper with no result. I will try calling Whistler Tourism when they are open, I did send them an e-mail about a week ago with no reply.

He seems very friendly and helpful however I just feel a little nervous that he may not be legitmate and do not seem to know where to go to find out if he is. Thankyou for your help on this matter.

You could book a different hotel so you have a place to go to and then drive/walk/bus to the Peakview Lodge and check out the place in person!
