I am travelling to Cambodia from Vietnam in February 2007, have already sorted the Vietnam Visa, but would like to travel by bus from Ho Chi Minh to Phnom Penn any advice on this regarding visas.

Not sure about travelling from Vietnam to Cambodia, but when I did the trip by bus from Thailand we were able to get the visas at the border in Poi Pet, relatively easy to do as well. Best bet is probably to check with the bus service provider as they will have to do this on a daily basis.

Also..does anyone know whether you need proof of onward travel to get a visa at the border? It doesn't seem to say on the embassy website (and it's hassle getting one in advance!). Thanks!

Went vietnam-cambodia with a tour group and had girls who hadn't arranged visas in advance but were able to pick them up in no time at the border. Not sure about onward travel though.

I travelled by bus from Saigon to PP and obtained my border at the visa. Very quick and easy. If you're worried though just get your visa in Saigon b4 you leave. Just about any hotel/cafe/tour operator will do it for you.

If you want a more interesting trip then getting a dead boring bus from Saigon-Phnom Penh, get one of the very cheap tours that can be arranged at any of the tourists shops in Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City. It takes 3 days and 2 nights goes through the Mekong Delta and you get a boat to the Vietnam/Cambodia border point. I got the visa on arrival (the guide went and got the whole groups visas and had no proof of onward travel when getting them). The tour was pretty good and was so cheap even by backpacker budget standards. It was way more fun than catching a boring bus, and what's more after you get off the boat in Cambodia and get the van ride to Phnom Penh, you can put claim to have been in a vehicle on what is probably the bumpiest main road in the world.

Hey, yes you can get the visa at the border and you do not need proof of onward travel (well, I didn't and I don't know anyone who has been asked...)
Have fun! C
