Hello there,

Does anyone have any advice on how to get directly to Siem Reap from Pakse? Time and money are not a problem but we haven't got a visa yet!! Do you know if it's easy to get a visa at the border or at the airport?

Is the journey from Southern Loas into Cambodia really bad?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

If money isnt a concern, you can take the flight. The border crossing from Voen Kham (L) to Dong Krolor (C) is okay but you have to travel from Pakse to Voen Kham, and then take a fast boat to Dong Krolor, crossing Mekong to get to Stung Treng. From Stung Treng, you will have to get bus to Siem Reap, via Kratie, Kompong Cham through Kompong Thom. There is no direct bus service. You will not be able to do it in a day! You may end up in putting up a night in Kratie!

As for visa, you have to get it done in advance; they dont issue visa at this border crossing.

Thanks James and Dana,

This info is really helpful! I will look into getting a flight to Siem Reap and find out whether it's easy to get a visa at the airport.

Take care of yourselves

Hi Sofie,

Easy. A visa, valid for 30 days, can be obtained on arrival at Siem Reap Airport. It's US$20 for a tourist visa. Two passport-sized photographs are required. Also you can get it done online -e-Visa. It's US20 plus US5 processing fee. They have designated two lanes at the airport for E-visa holders.

Hi Sofie,

Only a small point: actually only one passport photograph needed for the visa application on arrival but you will need another in any case for the Apsara pass for the Angkor Archaeological Park (Angkor Wat etc.)

Kind Regards
