I'll be travelling alone to Rome sometime in mid December.
Do you guys think Rome is a safe place for a girl?
Also, could you suggest some good hostels that are clean, friendly and centrally located. I don't hav a very big budget.
Is 7 days a lot to spend in Rome? Would it be advisable to spend 5 days in Rome and the remaining somewhere else....I always wanted to see Venice...is this a good idea?
Seven days is tight - but don't miss Venice! It's breathtaking - but it's also a 7+ hour trip from Rome.
Rome is quite expensive, both for accommodation and museums. Your cheapest bet is the area around Roma Termini; not very pleasant, but central-ish and safe-ish. Many lousy hostels, though, but closer to the centre, prices at least triple.
Don't forget EUR, in the south; Mussolini's contribution to the world exhibition in 193?. Strangely beautiful.
You may want to visit also Napoli for a day trip, take a train from Rome it takes about 2 hours or less. If you have more time, Pompeii is also worth for a visit.
Venice is beautiful but I am not sure how it will be like in winter. I like Florence, very beautiful city full of art works, churches, museums ect... very recommendable. You also can take a train of not more than 2 hours denpending on the train type, the eurostar would be faster.
For train tickets and information you may go to this website: www.trenitalia.com
San Gimignano is also a very nice medieval town that worth a visit. In general Italy is so beautiful so if you have 7 days you may arrange your time so that you can visit some more other cities beside Rome.
Hello J voyager
I think u will be safe enough, in Rome.
It would be wise, to avoid wandering around at night alone, like in any city.
U may get more attention, from men, in Italy, than in more Northern countries. Usually it is harmless, if a little to very annoying.
Venice is also a beautiful place. U could get there by train, in 4 hours.
I think u have enough time, for both Rome and Venice.
If u are on a budget u could stay at a hostel such as the following
Via Magenta 39
Tel: 06 445 4802
It is near the train station
Via Boezio 31
Tel: 06 687 4030
