This thread is marked as being about India

Just had a quick question..

I am currently in Italy and am looking to travel into India within the next 3 weeks.. I understand that i need to obtain a visa from within my home country before i can enter into India.. But the problem is that i am not in my home country to do so.. What steps would i take to go about this? and how long does it take to obtain one?

Thanks for any help in advance

You need to obtain your visa for India in a consulate or embassy of India. I think there should be one in Italy as well. It takes probably a few hours, but at least not more then two days.

It varies depending on specific embassy. Most you are fine outside your country, but take longer.

For example, two Slovenian friends recently tried to get their Indian visas's in London, but were told that as non UK citizens it would take 5days instead of 3 (and no rush service available to them). They hadn't been told this previously, had non refundable flights, and ended up having to miss India [they tried again to visa's in Dubai on their stop over and agaian failed in teh time frame].

Check with the specific embassy/consulate involved. if they can't do it, try a different one, even in teh same country, as rules/ideas often change between them. Good luck.
