I am going to Vancouver for 3 months to work and would like to spend the last few weeks of my trip in the Rockies. Can anyone recommend the best way to get to the Rockis in January? The bus seems to take ages and flights are expensive. Are there any budget airlines that operate?
Maybe something like WestJet may be cheap, but I'm not sure if it would be any cheaper than the Greyhound bus. Also, I believe there is a train that goes up that way... sorry I couldn't have been more help.
Where are you trying to get to? Just anywhere in the Rocky mountains? The mountain range runs from Canada all the way down to through the USA, so there are lots of places to go.
Preferably Banff, as I've heard it's really beautiful. Where would you recommend?
If you want to go to Banff and have a couple of weeks, forget flying. Take the bus and make some stops along the way. Check out the Okanogan valley (Kelowna), and places like Nelson or Revelstoke. Check out this company Moon PLanner Canadian Rockies for some suggestions of an sample iterneries that you could do. Travel by bus and make the stops along the way.
