I am flying to Shanghai next week and had planned to stay in Shanghai for 2 days before going to Nanjing, then Zhenjiang, Wuxi, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Ningbo (Putuo Shan) and back to Shanghai again for another few days before my return flight. I have about 27 days, travelling alone and light. I am thinking of including Huang Shan and its nearby ancient towns into my schedule, do you think i have enough time? What about the climate there? Is it better to join a local tour or go there myself (i heard that it can be quite expensive during the high season, or is it low season in November)?
If you've 27 days, I'd advise venturing into other regions of China instead of just staying in the area around Shanghai. Or have you already seen all the rest of China already?!
Drop me a private message if you'd like to meet up for a chat/tea/meal in Shanghai, I'm studying here and regularly meet up with travellers.
Oh... and I don't think you need to be on tours at all...! I've travelled through lots of places in China and have been quite strictly DIY! Could probably give you lots of tips and info if needed...
I will be going to Shaoxing and Ningbo in another few days, anyone who has been to these places can recommend some good hostels there?
There's an IYH in Ningbo but none in Shaoxing.
