Quoting mojorob

I'm in the UK, using an "up to 8Mbps" connection and IE 7 (can't stand Firefox, but that's another story..).

When browsing to the site it takes just as long as before (seems to be some delay there), but once here things seem to be a bit faster than before.

There's one particular 'taglet' on the front page that can take long to load if you have the site set to remember that you are logged in. The one with the last ten forumthreads you've posted in can be rather slow for some reason, so if you can live without that one, it really speeds up the front page.

If you aren't logged in, the front page is generally cached and there is no database action involved whatsoever so it should load as fast as any other page online of roughly the same size :)

tway, I've never seen that before, but it sounds more like a local computer setting/issue than something relating to the site or the browser?! Does it happen on internet exploder or any other browsers?

Hmmm, bentivogli, that's not good; just to be clear, with morning did you mean this morning (as the changes might not have been in effect for the full morning?). From where I'm sitting (different computer now too), the pages are taking 2 seconds tops (and that's including everything). Especially the forums should be seeing the improvement, as well as the photography pages.

It is much better today, even though login was still a bit slow. Probably also some fluctuations in the company network that cause this...

It only ever happens on the computer at home, which has Firefox. I haven't tried it with any other browser on the computer - I'll check tomorrow. It also only happens with TP...

It should be said, there are a few slow database queries still in the forums that need resolving, which may be why some of you who mainly spend time in this part of the site haven't noticed the dramatic speed increase we've seen overall. We're looking into those urgently now though as it should be quite possible to speed those up and make the forums fly like they should!
