I'll be going to the Philippines in December and will be there for ten days.
I was planning to be in Metro Manila only but now I'm thinking of visiting a few beaches, probably Mindoro first rather than Boracay.
How would I go there from Manila? Do I need the help of travel agencies in the Philippines?
Thanks in advance!
Short answer is no, you can get to Mindoro and Puerto Galera(PG) by yourself. Buses go to Batanges regularly and connect with the ferry over to PG. But, I would look at some of the packages offered for comparison. Take a look at the 'swagman' website. They have been in the P.I. for many years and can be a good source of info. Rooms, transport, tours, etc. Google; 'swagman philippines'.
Kyles, I have photos of both Mindoro and Boracay that I have not posted in my photo gallery yet. Send me a PM and I will send a few to you. Both are beautiful beaches and have great snorkelling, diving.
I shall check it out at the Swagman website to get more information.
Mindoro is really nice, and there are several options there, too. And the best part was already mentioned - you can get there by yourself
You posted a different thread saying you're a photographer, right? You might wanna try visiting Villa Escudero or Corregidor for day trips, too. I assure you, you'll come home with awesome pics
Yes, I know about Villa Escudero and Corregidor. And I'd like to visit the churches too, especially San Agustin!
Thanks for replying the thread.
When you say Mindoro, I reckon you mean Puerto Galera?
You can easily get there by taking any "Batangas Pier" bound bus found in Pasay or Cubao. Upon arrival at Batangas Pier, there's going to be a lot of people selling boat tickets for White Beach, Sabang, and other parts of Mindoro.
Pasay and Cubao are easily accessible by the rail.
Should you need any more help, just do send over a message. Take note of the weather, and travel safe.
Yes, Puerto Galera. Definitely. Hehe.
Well, I need to know how to get to Pasay from Malate though ... Heh.
Should be easy. Very easy
I believe the nearest bus terminal that heads to the Batangas pier is just a couple of rides away, actually. Or a very short cab ride. It's over at Buendia, right under the LRT. Trip to Batangas costs around Php150 one-way for the aircon buses. Buses leave as soon as they're filled up. No sweat.
From the Batangas pier, it's better to know where you really wanna go in Puerto Galera (there are several options) so you can take the boat that goes there directly. The usual options are:
1. Sabang - red light district; also the entry point to the Laguna beaches
2. White Beach - nightlife plus a long stretch of white sand; not much snorkeling here
3. Muelle - host to some more private resorts
In any case, you can always take a land trip to whatever part of Galera you need to be at wherever you dock. Only it'll take more time. And note that wherever you stay, you can always get on a boat for a day-trip and go island hopping for some snorkeling. The famous spots are Long Beach and Haligi Beach. Should be a bit pricey if you're doing it alone, though.
