Safety Boxes

One thing that just crossed my mind. I'll be travelling end of this year and I'll be carrying my photography gear along but I was wondering, could we trust those safety boxes offered by hotels (not those 5 star hotels, just the normal one)? 'Cause I'm just worried about my gear and there might be times when I don't want to carry it out.

Photographers, would it be possible for you to tell me how you guys care for the gear when you are not bringing it along?

Thanks!

Kyels,
This is the dilemma when staying in cheaper hotels. Larger hotels have secure safety boxes and lesser hotels don't, or you feel they are dodgy. You also may not trust leaving your gear in your room.

What to do? You have several choices, both of which I have used. Have a hard sided, lockable case that will hold your cameras. Use a cable to lock the case to your bedframe. It is going to take a very determined thief to steal your gear. Or leave your locked case with the front desk personnel and ask for a receipt. Good Luck.

Mike,

I'm going to stay in Malate Pensionne and I've booked the rooms. The thing is that if my budget is high I would have opted for a 5 Star hotel but I guess I would be going out more than staying in the room. It's just that I'm sorta worried how do I keep my gears safe if I happen to go out at night to places like bistros or restaurants. Can't be dragging everything along.

It's definitely a dilemma. But thank you for the ideas, I do appreciate.

(:

Hello Kyels

I think in the places, which have safe boxes, where u get one for yourself, and you lock your things in, and take the key with u are generally safe. I think the ones, where the hotel staff lock things in a safe and look after them, for u are not always safe. Sometimes staff may be tempted.
But I am not sure all your photography gear would always fit in all the safe boxes. Not all of them are big.

HonoluluJi,

J.W. Marriot; man, that's expensive. Well, if my budget is not that low (still a student), I would have opted for a hotel as such. Hehe.

But thank you for the information. I do appreciate.

Mel,

The safety boxes that are provided in the hotel in which I will be staying; the keys will be with me. And I read that it's quite big, but I still have to see it first.

Thank you for the information.
