cdnwander has indicated that this thread is about France

Spending approximately one week in France in September - entry point is Paris. We'll be visiting Spain and Ireland prior to our arrival in France. We'd like to spend about 3 days in Paris (have been once before) and then visit a surrounding region. What are your recommendations and best experiences? Many thanks.

Hi,
Paris is my favourite city, but crime seems to be mushrooming out of control. Watch for pickpockets everywhere and do not be distracted by people in the streets - someone behind you will be emptying your bag!

Hey CDN,

I posted a reply to someone asking about Paris a week ago or so. Here's the link to the thread:

As for experiences, I really enjoyed all that I saw! Yes, it's hokey and cheesey, but I found it so beautiful there I was in awe and over-excitement when I went Anyways, I hope the link to the other thread helps you with Paris, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask me!

Cheers,
Katie ;)

Apologies - I should have been more specific. I am looking for suggestions/favourite experiences beyond Paris - so suggestions of favourite regions/experiences would be appreciated. Also needs to be realistic given roughly one week in France, with three of these days being spent in Paris. Many thanks.

I say split your time in Paris and somewhere on the Riviera. We did Paris and Nice. From Nice you can do day trips to Cannes and Monaco, and it's a lot cheaper staying there than in either of those places :) It's very beautiful, and even if you are staying far from the Sea, it's still a pleasant walk to get there, admiring all the shops along the way.

Cheers,
Katie ;)

Actually I would not spend the whole week in Paris, which is a marvellous city but the true spirit of France lives in other places: what you would think of visiting the countryside in Provence or the Occitane (Uz├ęs, Avignon, Nimes for instance)?

There are a few regions close to paris that are lovely to stay in. The first is the champagne region...e.g. reims and epergnay. The loire valley is also not too far and that has some beautiful chateau to visit. Im not sure on your mode of transport but i would imagine if you had a car you could explore one of these regions fully within a week.

hope this helps
enjoy your trip
