Well put James! Plenty of occupations here that could fall into that category

Cockroaches are an increasing prob in England (not just the political type), but you'd still be very very unlucky to end up staying somewhere they are. I've lived in England all my life and I've only ever seen one, once.

Apparantley they've got some monster tropical cockroaches in the palm house at Kew Gardens!

I've lived with with mice and slugs but have never seen a cockroach in this country, apart from some guys...

Although do think you can get them sometimes, i think they were on "life of grime" - a behind the scene tv show about council environmental health and pest control officers and all the guys who deal with that stuff.

If you're feeling a hungry and fancy a snack I believe you can buy them on the internet....

I guess we shouldn't mention the "money spiders" then.

In Canada you would also be pretty safe, I think. ;)

One of my favourite memories of Sydney was of the ant lions. I'd definately take them over the roaches.

Aka "doodle bugs". It is the larval stage of what, as an adult, resembles a smaller dragonfly. But you don't really see them. You just see a small pit in the sand or dirt, perhaps 10cm or so across, as I remember.

The pit is built at its maximum pitch, i.e., any further particles or objects on its slope will roll down to the center of the pit. Should an ant be unfortunate enough to find himself on this slippery slope (in the literal sense), he will slide down and then be "pulled underground" by the hungry ant lion. Assuming that you are not uneasy with "the course of nature", this is fun to watch; and in accordance with the classical verities, the gruesome part takes place "off-stage", below the sand.

Here is just one link (if allowed): http://www.antlionfarms.com/ But Google will lead you to more than you probably ever wanted to know about them.
