I'm 32 and have a wife and 7 month old daughter. We are thinking of spending 4-6 weeks in Australia later next year when my daughter will be about 18 months old. Does anyone have experiences of travelling that far with a small child? What are the flights like (apart from long - we will split it each way)? How easy is it to travel with a child whilst in Australia? Should we leave it until she's old so she can appreciate it more?
Thinking of doing the West Coast as we have already done the East Coast, Centre and South when we had less ties!
I have travelled throughout Australia with young children and my experience (although quite a few years ago)was great.
Of course it is totally different to when the kids weren't with you and there are many changes you will have to make. However as your daughter will be approx 18 months old your personal experience with her (and therefore the changes in your personal lives) will assist no end.
A suggestion for you in the interim is to begin to do some travelling/camping whilst still at home so you can learn what to take, what you can do without and how you/she may react in a totally different place without home comforts etc.
This will also assist your daughter in being out of routine and learning to cope with change.
I am not sure it will make much difference if you do it now or later on - she really is not going to remember much for a few years........ so why not go now...... and then again later on...... and then again later on.......
And of course - being a West Aussie.... I like the part of you travelling through our part of the country. LOL
I say go for it - who knows what is going to happen in the future.
Thank heavens someone sorted out that problem I had last night trying to answer your post........ gees it posted nine times!! LOL
I was a bit embarrassed about coming back to check on it.....
