Is it easier still for Sander to become a Guru simply because he works for TP, and thus probably has access to change the code to promote himself to Guru

If I was going to do things like that, I'd long since have changed the member title of all moderators to Janitor, but alas, alas. ;)

Alas??? Who is this Alas person and where do we find him/her??? We need to have a chat!!
Until then, we janitors will just keep hoping for a miracle to occur...

[Suddenly realises that he hasn't done much for a while except a bit of posting, so goes off to do some things to try and ensure he doesn't loose his Guru ranking, and rejoin the ranks of *them*:(]

There should be some sort of warning. I haven't been too active lately either (too much work, not enough sleep), so I'm getting concerned. (though if I go to the blog page I do see two blogs of mine in the featured posts, one which was featured for a second time in a return appearence. Say, do I get extra credit for that?).

Greg, I think you are safe. If based on any new ranking you would all of a sudden lose your guru status, heck, I might even be persuaded to change the ranking in such a way you get it back. Considering the amount of blog posts you've had featured, you're not likely to lose that status anytime soon. I think we can safely assume the same for you Gelli (especially after that special delivery of beer the other day )

Keep on posting and you will be Travel Guru...it's just based on posts, nothing else really. I know it's been told that also other things have influence but if you compare several members that's probably not the case.

Dakiar is a good case in point. He is a Respected Member and has only contributed 1 post to the forum :) It's all because of his blog and photos that he has that title.

Ok, well, then it is.;) I just based it on my own comparisons, especially with people having around the same number of posts, being the same position but with a big difference in featured things, travels en travelhelpers.

Interesting. If you want me to check any specific cases, feel free to send me a pm. There was a bug in the system for a while, but that was fixed a while back so it should all be included :) By the way, featured forum entries and blog entries aren't traceable (sp?) from a users profile, so that could be making the difference.

I think that could make the difference possible yes. And Peter already send me an example from someone who was a respected member with just one post (lots of featured blogs and stuff). Maybe I just looked at the regular users only. By the way, when is a blog entry or forum entry featured?

By the way, when is a blog entry or forum entry featured?

Basically when our editor in chief decides they are an interesting read :) The blog entries on the left hand side of the main blogs page are featured for example, as are the forum entries on the home page when you aren't logged in.

By the way, when is a blog entry or forum entry featured?

When we manually review them and decide that they are featurable ;) The moderators and admin are able to feature the threads in the forum. Eric is the one now largely tasked with monitoring the blogs for good entries and features one about once a day.

Wow, what kind of activity all together at the same time...living apart lots of timezones as well....thanks brothers, I guess I just haven't looked at members like Dakiar, because I just did not know him
