Quoting Sam I Am

Here's a wacky hunch. Didn't the time in the US just go forward or back an hour in the past weekend? Could that have caused it?!

Nah... I don't think it's the time change. I'm putting my money on Isa.

Yeah, something definitely is going on there. Like Peter said, traffic is the same as last week and I keep getting scared every time I see that number. But I can't remember anything changing either.... I'll put it down to isa :)

My, my, my... I expect this type of abuse from Hien - but et tu, Samuel?????

In the infamous words of Winston Churchill, I see where this is headed... "If you have an important point to make, don't try to be subtle or clever. Use a pile driver. Hit the point once. Then come back and hit it again. Then hit it a third time-a tremendous whack." I await that tremedous whack. In the meantime, I will be covertly sneaking into Hien's lair and taking rightful control of my crowbar. One must be prepared to defend oneself against the slings and arrows soon to be headed her way. I must rise up against this Anti-Isaism movement.

Since I'm on a Winston Churchill roll... "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm." I may have failed in my most recent attempt to bring TP to a screeching halt, but I have not lost my enthusiasm. One day I shall succeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever the problem is, could it also explain why Beerman was listed as online for over an hour when he was only logged in for the 20 seconds it took for me to log him out and log myself in?? And, I'm not quite getting why the "fall back" to CST in the US would mess with the head count... (I know the server is here, but...)

As it turns out, there was a bug in the system.. the low numbers are because it was reporting users who accessed a new page in the last 6 or so minutes rather than 10 minutes. Perhaps the high numbers from last week were due to an inverted problem. Anyway, it is fixed now and should prove more accurate.

Now, excuse me while I go log all my 100 users in!

So with all of the record numbers we saw in late October last year being suspect due to the DST bug, the highest number of online members spotted was 46, back in January 2007.
I haven't seen that broken yet, but did just now see 44 members online, which is getting pretty close. Looks like summer vacations are over, and everyone is in need of planning the next trip!

There was actually a slight change to the code, which would also boost those numbers slightly. Whereas normally, the members online figure is based on people who were active in the last 10 minutes, that can now end up being 11 minutes due to some caching. Perhaps we should make it 30 minutes to boost the numbers even more ;) Some sites include members who were active up to 3 hours ago (Thorntree, I'm looking at you).
