Need tips on what it´s like to travel around in scotland as a woman on her own. Are planning a trip to scotland in june 2007, my first trip abroad on my own. Are not an experienced travel, so if you´re a woman that has done what I´m planning to do, please tell me all about your experiences. Feel a bit nervous about going on my own...
I just did it on my lonesome last week. Wasn't as scary as I thought. I booked into Brodie's backpackers in Edinburgh and met a ton of people who were also travelling around Scotland. A few of us decided on a mini-bus tour with a company called Rabbie's. It was brilliant! We took a three day tour and travelled to the Isle of Skye. There was only 16 people on the bus, so we all bonded and hung out together for the whole trip. So my advice would be to go on an organised tour. There are lots of different companies, but the one I used was www.rabbies.com.
ps. you'll meet loads of people if you stay in a hostel.
im not a woman.
But I can say that Scotland would be very safe - among the safest aside from Ireland to travel. Just use the same caution you would anywhere. And avoid the neds...altho they would mostly bother men anyway...ironically enough.
The tours are ok - i would never do it again after the one I took, but you get a better feel for local culture I think travelling solo and tend to meet more locals.
