I've been wondering about this and just had to ask.
Iceland has been in the news a lot about the new law to allow whaling. People who are against this are saying that people will stop coming to Iceland because of it.
Is that true? Would you cancel a trip to Iceland because we hunt whales?
No, I'd still go to Iceland.
It's Japan that has a bad reputation for whaling in Australia.
Yes, it would/does stop me. Hit 'em where it hurts, which is in the wallet. Isn't Greenpeace starting some campaign soon against travelling to countries involved in whaling?
I think it will stop some people.
Personally I would still go to Iceland - whilst I'm not in favour of whaling I think the response is somewhat disproportionate - but I guess everyone has to make their own moral choices about countries that they fund with their tourist dollars. I'm personally more concerned about human rights abuse, but I still decided to go to the USA and I'm going to China next year!
I agree with James,I think it could stop some people but not everybody.
I think its disgraceful & unhumane but sad as it is, with issues like this it can be out of sight out of mind. I personally would be angered by reading something like that & if I were booking a holiday today would not go to Iceland, but with every day life as it is I would forget about it & then it wouldnt stop me unfortunately. I do think it would be a good campaign though to prevent things like this happening. If the governments pockets were being hit because of tourism dropping they might rethink their laws.
Yes I would go, no it wouldn't stop me. Why? Who is hurt most by a tourism slowdown, the government or the people?
The way to effect change is through dialogue. Barring that, nuclear missiles work well....
