also how much gear should i take with me and wats the best stuff to take?
thanks guys hope to hear from you soon
Sounds like a good trip!! When do you set off?
That is a pretty broad question there Dauce.
What sort of things do you want to do whilst travelling? (Sports, nature, tours, history)
How long are you spending in those places? What sort of budget are you travelling on?
Once you work out these things, its easier to find the best way to go about things.
Im from Sydney Australia, If you need help on attractions and stuff in sydney let me know. Im not much good on accom and such though since i usually sleep in my own bed! :D
well i set off in march hopefully!!
and ill pretty much be spending a month in each place (probably 2 weeks in fiji). and ill prob be taking around 3 - 4000 pounds? and australia im not really sure what to do there i would really like to do some extreme stuff like bungee jumps or parachute jumps all that kind of stuff? but then again i also want to see natural stuff as well?
what places have you traveled to? im dying to get on with my trip and cant stop thinkin bout it!!!
You have plenty of time to plan out your adventure. There is a wealth of info in the older posts. Jump to the 'Round the World' forum and take a look at what others advise on what gear to pack. Also look at the Asia forum for Thailand advice. Lots of good stuff in the older posts. Same for OZ-NZ. Also take a look at the 'travel help' option on the left menu. There will be travel helpers for each country. Pick one that you feel will be helpful and send them a PM. Use the travel helpers for each country for advice on; accomodation, visas, sightseeing, transport, etc.
Another thing that might help is to look through the Lonely Planet books for your countries. The library should have them or you can get them at a used bookstore in the UK. Good Luck.
I imagine you'll be doing a bit of walking with a heavy pack - so a very good pair of hiking boots is key - something from La_Sportiva or equivalent. When you get to the first country you visit - buy a good all-purpose, inexpensive swiss army knife or equivalent. It will come in handy when you have to open a can of soup because the restaurants have all closed when you get into town at midnight. Pitch the knife before you get on the plane to the next country. A light weight water-repelling jacket in case you're caught in a downpour - make sure your pack is also water repelling. Make sure your pack is not more than 25% of our body weight - you'll figure this out when you have to walk to the next town and it's 10 miles away and there aren't cabs to wave down. And watch out for those women backpackers - they don't shave their legs and it gets itchy when they get oo close. Happy travelling.
