I am a solo traveler planning on going to Egypt for about 3 weeks in May. I want to go to Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbul, Dahab, Mt. Moses, and then make my way to Petra. Any suggestions? Things not to miss? Tour or no tour? If so any suggestions of reputable companies, keep in mind I am in my mid-20's (no old people tours either.) I dont want to spend a fortune and I dont mind taking trains anywhere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

of course dont take a fixed tour ,make it so simple and follow what you want
you may go to dahab and you thought to stay there 2 days but then you will find your self wants to stay 2 weeks (i,m sure you will do ) heheheh
try to get lonley planet book guide its very useful
cause it will tel you where to go how ,where to stay how much for most of everything
and good luck
make sure to go and visit the western desert specialy the white desert
if you need any help contact me as i live in alexadnria
safe trip and enjoy it

Things not to miss in Cairo:

a) Pyramids at Giza
b) Coptic Cairo (Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue)
c) Islamic Cairo (Citadel, mosques of Sultan Hassan and Al-Rifai)
d) The Egyptian Antiquities Museum
e) A walk through Zamalek - on Gezira Island
f) Khan-el-Khalili Market
g) Restaurants (El-Tahrir, El-Fishawys for the ambience and not the food, Felfela - Take out joint ONLY)

If you don't wanna do an old person's tour, then do the felucca trip up the Nile - especially if you have time. Check out If not, look up touring club of egypt for fancier cruises. I went through them since I did not have time to do a felucca cruise - which is significantly slower and probably more fun too - especially with regard to the kinda people you meet. An ideal Nile cruise would be up the river from Aswan to Luxor. Hope this helps.

Take care,

Great I appreciate your help. I will be picking up a Lonely Planet shortly.. Also, How long and how much for a trip to the White desert? It seems like there is a lot to see but I do a lot very quickly. So if 2 days is good in Cairo to see everything and spend more time outside of Cairo I would like too. About how many days in Cairo?
