Hello! I'm thinking on travel to Cuba this Christmas season, I have some questions:
1. I really cheap go there?
2. How about nightlife, is good?
3. I travel alone so I have to take care with cubans?
4. How safety is to stay with a host family?
5. How expensive is to go to a hostel?

I can answer a couple of questions...

1. I really cheap go there?

It's not the cheapest place in the Caribbean, but is less expensive than some of the more touristed places like Cancun.

2. How about nightlife, is good?

Yes. Lots of clubs with good music and cheap booze. Friendly people, though I did run into more than a few girls looking to exchange sex for money.

3. I travel alone so I have to take care with cubans?

I found the Cubans were friendly. I was constantly asked if I wanted to buy something (usually cigars), but if I said no, they would leave me alone immediately.

I used to have friends in Cuba who could have helped you, but they are not there any more. The best thing you can do is find a good host family, they can introduce you to many more people who can take you to different places, advise you, etc. That way is really cheap, if you stick to private iniciatives (cars, restaurants "paladares", accomodation). Cuba is safe, they are friendly and take good care of tourists. Nightlife is great, live music, excellent drinks, good food. Enjoy it!

I agree with Tony, the best way is to find a good host family, stay with them a couple of days and then, if you want, travel to other cities. The host family will help you getting another house to stay in.
I know some good Cuban people in Santiago de Cuba, so if you need a place to stay there let me know.
Night life is good there, girls all over the place looking for a "client". Walking alone in the night can be dangerous (specially in Habana) like in any other big city, better take a taxi.
