Is there a train or bus (that travels down the coast) from LA to San Diego? If so, what is the name of the route, the station to catch the transport, and how much is the cost?

If you can, rent a car for a day or two, and take the Pacific Coast Highway (Old Rt. 1) to the extent that it is possible. There are occasions where it disappears for stretches or merges with larger Interstate Highways. But, Rt. 1 is your best bet for fantastic views of the Pacific. The entirety of the distance from Los Angeles to San Diego is now rather metropolitan and even crosses a large Military Base. Short side trips into places like Manhattan Beach are worthwhile. But, where you may want to spend much of your time is the region close to San Diego and into the city itself. For example, La Jolla provides places to stop and wander near the ocean. San Diego has numerous sites and activities of interest. That is where I would suggest doing the bulk of the touring in the area you have described.
Enjoy the trip.

Amtrak runs the Pacific Surfliner down the coast. You can board it from a number of stations in the southern California area. If you take it to the Old Town Train Station you can wander Old Town itself or pick up the San Diego Trolley which will take you all over the area. I think it also goes right to the Mexican border and from there you can walk over into Tijuana.

Check out the amtrack and sdcommute web sites.
