Your dicussions reminded me on a picture I took a couple of weeks ago (early october) in the city centre of Melbourne Merry christmas in October.

I couldn't believe it and totally agree its wrong they start so early with the decorations, especially because it's getting summer here in Australia now and I don't feel like christmas at all.

That's not a tree, it's a Dalek in disguise!

Erm. I hate to disagree with you, but he does exist. Crazy as it sounds, he's actually one of my customers (i'm going up on my annual visit in a couple of weeks time). Mrs Claus is lovely, the elves are mostly derranged alcoholics, Rudolfs red nose is fake but a work of art, and Santas secretary is - baring a taxi driver i once saw in Rijeka, Croatia - the most stunning oman i have ever seen or heard of in my entire life.

Can someone tell me WHY anyone would think it was a good idea to put up full blown Christmas decorations (along with garden santas etc etc) all flashing and glowing in the dark - at the start of November??

The clocks have gone back. It's now dark early (f*cking early where I am), which means it's winter, which means it's Christmas time. It happens every year that basically after the clocks change and Halloween, decorations go up. Heard lots of reports in the Uk of it already, although not seen any myself.

Oh, and on a vaguely unrelated topic, you'll probably appreciate that on the same logic as that, for Christmas this year i've asked for an Easter egg...

Some places that celebrate "Christmas in July" start putting up decorations in December.

These same places also celebrate Christmas at the usual time in December, and start putting up decorations in July.

Therefore, these places are always decorated for Christmas

I particularly don't celebrate Xmas but if people need a little bit of cheering up then i say "Go For It"...All The Best To Those Who Yet Have To Put Up Their Xmas Decorations
