Hey all,

Im headed to SE asia for a couple months and my first stop is in thailand in January. I presume that ill be able to pick up a mosquito net with ease near Kho San Rd. much more cheaply than here in the states, right?. A permethrin treated net is running about 50 bucks online!

Thanks,

M

Mike,
Of course a net will be cheaper there than the US. However, in 12 trips to SEA, I have never carried a mosquito net. All the decent hotels have a/c, you don't need them. All the cheaper places have nets for the beds. You could carry your own net, but I found out it was not necessary, at least for me.

Thanks again Mike.

I was thankful for taking a net - some of the nets we came across in more out of the way or cheap spots were a bit of a token gesture and had big holes in. I'm sure you could pick up a perfectly adequate net cheap in Bangkok.

I bought a plug -in mosquito repellent from a supermarket in Phuket -if you plug them in just before you go to bed they will kill any mosquitoes in the room. Most places should have plug sockets. I couldn't have done wihtout mine in my 3 months in asia.

I bought a couple of "bugbands" before I left for Chiang Mai Thailand earlier this year - they seemed to work VERY well - they use a natural Geraniol treated rubber wristband. Google "bugband" for the manufacturer's site. I got them online from an army supply site for a couple dollars, they last about 48 hours.
