Hi Feroze

Do you mean to get around Kuala Lumpur, or to get around Peninsula Malysia from Kuala Lumpur?

Just to get around the city you definitely don't need to hire a car - taxis are cheap, and the light rail network is very cheap, clean and easy and goes to lots of places.

Renting a car for Kuala Lumpur wouldn't be a good idea. Rush hours, many one way streets and for somebody being the first time in Kuala Lumpur it will be to confusing.

Renting a car for Malaysia would be a good idea, as it gives you a lot of flexibility.

For Kuala Lumpur I can recommend you the MRT, LRT & Monorail. It's a easy and convenient way to get around and after 1 day excessive use you should get the hang of it and the system.

For further attractions as Batu Caves etc. you always can use a Taxi.

I agree, don't hire a car.
Taxis are cheap. In KL the meter starts at RM2 and its quite a cheap way to travel, especially if there are 2 or more people.

Taxi. The hotel can recommend you a regular cabbie, whom you can then put on-call if you need a driver on standby.

Other than that, just hail a cab anywhere and insist on the meter. Try to get a copy of the Train map as soon as you can. It is better to avoid the traffic snarls in the city by going onto the train.
